As of today (Thursday, July 18), I’m 17 weeks pregnant! Time to tell you all about week 16!
After our eventful week 15, this week has been a needed low-key week. We had a family hiking adventure over the weekend, which was a blast! Xander loves the hiking sack and we are excited to take it out again! I’m also excited for the next time my dad comes to visit, because he’s going to LOVE where we went hiking.
This week, as many parts of the nation are also experiencing, has been incredibly hot and humid. We’ve been staying indoor and hitting up water activities. Just in this past week we’ve been to the indoor pool, my cousins outdoor pool, and the splash park. Definitely trying to stay as cool as possible!
Baby weighs 3-5 ounces and measures 4-5 inches from head to rump. Bones in the ear are formed, which means baby can probably hear our voices now! H2.0 also gaining strength in his back muscles, developing facial expressions, and starting to squint! (Eyelids are still sealed though!)
What’s Up with Mama
My complexion is finally clearing up a bit, but I’m not convinced this will be the last of it with this hot and humid weather! I also had my first bout of constipation this week – which is a pregnancy symptom I NEVER experienced with Xander. Definitely not pleasant. But thankfully with the first trimester nausea pretty much gone, I’ve been able to stomach vegetables a lot more often…. namely: lettuce! Holy man have I been craving salads this week. I’ve probably had five salads and would have had more if we didn’t run out of lettuce. I’m also out of pickles. Cannot wait for grocery trip this weekend.
Topic of the Week: Two Under Two
Xander and Baby H2.0 will be 21 months apart. I come from a family with four kids and my sister and I are the two middle kids – being 20.5 months apart! I’m absolutely thrilled that our babies will be this close in age because I know how close and special of a relationship my sister and I have always had. I’m sure it helps that we are the same sex, so if we have another boy, I think the relationship between them will be even greater (I’m just basing this on the dynamics of my family but I’m sure there are plenty of siblings that are boy/girl who are equally as close in age and relationship).
I’m also wondering if I should try to potty train Xander before the next baby comes. I know boys typically take a little longer / are older than girls when potty training, so maybe I should reevaluate his potty interest closer to the time. We put him on the potty probably three times a day, just to get him used to it – but he’s never actually peed. Of course I know 16 months is young though!
Baby wearing is going to be a must with H2.0. I imagine many walks with Xander in a stroller, bike, holding my hand, while H2.0 is strapped to mommy. I also imagine this will be the only way to conquer grocery shopping 🙂 . Seeing X interact with the baby is also going to be the most precious thing. When I see my mom in August I can’t wait for him to get some of my old cabbage patch dolls! We recently saw Xander offer his zippy cup of water to terry the t-rex and to his swimming turtle! It was so precious and those things aren’t even human!
Nothing too eventful has occurred since week 15; we are entering that period of the pregnancy where Katie isn’t showing and each week is (thankfully) boring. Without much happening, it has given me more time to think about what it’s going to be like with two kids. For example, Xander has been so goofy and quite a hoot to watch. Will the next baby be just as funny? Will the baby be more serious? I’m very interested to see how this experience differs from Xander.
Hope you enjoyed the recap! If you have any questions for me or John along the way, please don’t hesitate to ask! <3
