I’m 21 weeks pregnant tomorrow (Thursday, August 15), so it’s time to tell you all about week 20!
Let’s start with mama real quick: First off, I’m totally happy that I look so pregnant in the above photo, but it’s totally deceiving. This picture was taken in the evening, I was completely constipated and this shirt really helps. I’m not sure why my body likes to be constipated on the weekends, but it’s getting really old. It is as if my bowels are having mood swings – because then when I am able to use the bathroom, it feels like I have a stomach bug and go all day. If anyone has any advice, I would love to receive it. My diet is good and I’m still being active, so I really only can think that pregnancy is the complete reason.
What’s up with baby: H2.0 is the size of a banana this week! Approximately 7 inches long and 11 ounces in weight. He is moving up a storm now and John even got to feel him!! I had an anterior placenta with Xander, so feeling this much movement this early is so fun!! We will get more details about H2.0’s development based on anatomy scan results later today at our midwife appointment! Can’t wait!
Anatomy scan details: We had our anatomy scan this past week! I have to say that it was an extremely disappointing experience. To make a long story short, John was at my feet, I couldn’t see the screen, and the technician didn’t explain anything. After posting on my personal Facebook page, my friends encouraged me to call and speak to a manager. We had already taken the time to fill out the comment card, but after the Facebook discussion, I finally pulled my big girl panties up and called. The manager was extremely nice and we ended up scheduling a follow-up visit for the next day with a different technician. Thankfully, our second experience was much better. She made sure I could see the screen and explained it all as she went along.
I had made a cute little reveal card and the tech from the first day put an ultrasound picture in with the sex results. When we got back from PA, we had a small party with friends revealed the gender! It was such a fun time and I can’t thank our friend, Jess, enough for making the cakes!
John’s thoughts: This was quite an exciting week. Of course being week 20, we’re already half way through pregnancy #2. But that also means we had our anatomy scan! Even though we’ve seen ultrasounds of Xander, I’m still in awe when we get to see our little legume. I can’t believe how quickly this pregnancy has progressed and how big the baby is already! And since Katie’s placenta is not anterior like last time, we can already feel him wiggle around. It’s amazing! We (I) could never feel movement early with Xander. Of course, we also got to find out the sex. Now we didn’t do it the same way as with Xander (i.e. in the room). We decided to have the tech write the sex in a envelope, seal it, and then give it to our friend to reveal the sex (as Katie detailed above). I’ll admit that I was hoping for a girl so we could have one of each. But I was still delighted to find out we were having a boy! It certainly takes a lot of stress out of the equation since I won’t have to worry about a daughter bringing home shady guys. It’ll also be great for Xander to have a little partner in crime. Now the only problem is not spilling the beans on his name….
Hope you enjoyed the recap! If you have any questions for me or John along the way, please don’t hesitate to ask! <3
