I am officially 23 weeks pregnant today, so it’s time to tell you all about week 22!
What’s up with baby? H2.0 is weighing around a pound and is nearly 8 inches long! Baby now has eyebrows, lashes, and maybe even hair! (Which judging by how much hair Xander had, I bet this one has started to grow his too!) H2.0 can perceive light and dark, and hear all types of noises: our voices, my heartbeat, my stomach rumbling, and even the blood circulating in my body – crazy!
What’s up with mama? This week Braxton Hicks contractions started in full force. It seems my body naturally gets these earlier than many other pregnant women. BH contractions aren’t typically something to get super stressed about since it’s a natural way your body is preparing for labor contractions, but this week the BH were out of control! I was hitting the 6 contractions/hour limit that my midwives use as a cut off to call in. After 2 days of hitting the limit a few times a day, I finally called them on the third day to let them know what had been going on. The previous days, I was just doing the techniques I knew when I was pregnant with Xander and eventually things would calm down. I really didn’t want to go into Labor & Delivery to be monitored and checked (which is what they have you do if you’re over 20 weeks), so I waited through another night and made an appointment for the next day. I received reassurance from my midwife that my cervix was closed, thick, and far back – yippy! Glad we know that this might just be my “normal!” John talks about this topic in his thought below as well.
In other news, my workouts have been crappy – as in they pretty much didn’t exist this week… or last week. :/ And at this point of pregnancy, I’m up to about 8.5 pounds gained.
Topic of the week: Where will the boys sleep?
Xander will be staying in his crib as long as possible and we will be purchasing a bassinet to have H2.0 in our room. This plan will work out until 1) Xander is ready to transition to a big boy bed or 2) H2.0 outgrows the bassinet – whichever comes first. My guess is baby will outgrow the bassinet before we want to take X out of the crib, but only time will tell!
John’s Thoughts: This week was quite stressful with the onset of Katie’s Braxton Hicks. When she first started to get small “squeezes” on Sunday we didn’t think too much of it. But as it persisted for the next several days we began to get a little concerned. Our fears were eased a bit as we looked over Xander’s pregnancy book and noticed that she felt light BH contractions around week 19 and beyond with X-man as well. Additionally, when speaking with the midwives, they didn’t sound as concerned since there was no evidence of bleeding or painful contractions. After about 3 days of worry, the BH’s eventually subsided and I could stop envisioning the frantic rush to the ER to stop pre-term labor. And once Katie had the midwives cheek her and they could see that no early progression was happening, we could definitely put our fears at ease. It’s unfortunate that the stressful BH’s somewhat marred the fun we had earlier in the weekend for Katie’s birthday… but I guess the unpredictable nature of pregnancy is just part of the whole package!
Hope you enjoyed the recap! If you have any questions for me or John along the way, please don’t hesitate to ask! <3
