This past Saturday we made our way to PA for The Color Run at Penn State! Before we left, I made sure to do my nails…
Fun right? The kids did great in the car and we were all happy to have the car ride be over. We stayed with my dad since they live closer to PSU and my aunt/uncle came over that evening for a nice dinner. The next morning we were up and at ’em for The Color Run, where we met up with even more family!!
Lincoln was ready too… He actually did amazing with my dad and nursed SO SO well when I was done running.
Now for some details: the PSU color run is big and busy. And they need a lot more organization for releasing the runners/walkers. I would guess that 75% of people walked, which made for A LOT of weaving for those of us running. We had a LONG wait before crossing the start line and we not even far back in line. Our time to start was 9:00 am and we didn’t cross the start line until 9:52. Xander was unhappy, we were unhappy, and that part of the race really needs some work for next year. Once we finally started though, everything was fine. Sure we had to weave in and out, but the color stations were fine and the post-race celebration was happening.
Since there were so many people and so many walkers, there were long lines at the color station. If you ran right through them, like me and John, then you didn’t receive much color. So I wasn’t very colorful, John got mostly his back covered, but my other family members certainly became rainbows!! I think next year we would just plan to walk with Xander and get more colorful. In my mom I was constantly thinking of if Lincoln needed to eat, so I didn’t want to wait in the lines!
Overall it was a fun time and a great experience with family! I do hope they fix the start line situation for next year though! Big thanks to The Color Run for providing me and John with complimentary race entries. We appreciate it!
PS. I do plan to compare and contrast our experience with The Color Run to Color Me Rad!!
