Can you believe I’m going to be 29 weeks tomorrow?! I certainly can’t. This past month really seems to have flown by and I’m getting more and more excited with each day that passes. Here are all the details on week 28:
What’s Up With Baby: According to Baby Center, baby weighs 2 1/4 pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of the head to the heels. Baby can blink his eyes now and has eye lashes! Baby may also be able to see light that filters though my womb! Body fat is also being added and he’s getting ready for the outside world!
Weight Gain: Weekly gain was 0.8 pounds. This now makes my net difference +10.3 pounds, but +19.3 when you include the 9 pound regain.
What I’ve Been Eating: I devoured the taco salads we had this week. I asked John when I could make them again and he said I had to wait at least a week or he’ll get sick of them. I can’t wait to make them again! Our dinners also included: shrimp/rice/corn, chicken/potatoes/salad, and turkey/sweet potatoes/salad. We also had our traditional Sunday brunch of pancakes and turkey bacon. Yum Yum.

I think something must have been on the camera lens. It looks like I have something gnarly in my teeth — I can assure you, I didn’t!
How I’m Feeling: I’m more tired. My tail bone has been hurting a lot. And I have to watch not over doing workouts or my lady parts feel all tender. (Not sure how else to describe that one.)
How I’m Sleeping: Sleep has been very unpredictable this week. I still usually only wake up once to pee during the night and then again when John is getting ready for work, but this past week I’ve also just been waking up to apparently twiddle my thumbs. Naps were okay over the weekend, but I don’t think I had one nap during the week.
Baby Movement: He’s still a mover and shaker! He especially likes to move around when I’m relaxing on the couch or right before bed. It’s also been cute to seem him react to hearing John’s voice for the first time during the day — he usually responses with a nice big kick! So cute.
Doctor Stuff: I’m pretty sure I know which practice I want to go to. They deliver at the hospital we want and accept our insurance. It’s actually a group of 5 midwives, but of course they are overseen by a group of doctors as well. John and I are going to go to an orientation session of their practice next week and are very excited! I wasn’t allowed to schedule an appointment yet because I don’t have our exact insurance numbers, but at least I know they accept the type of we have.
Buying for Baby Mommy: This weekend we made our first trip to the mall and bought a pair of full-panel jeans and full-panel dark grey dress pants. I’m pretty sure these will be the last pairs of pants I need for my pregnancy!
John’s Thoughts: For some reason this week I was thinking a lot about how babies are the epitome of potential. I guess when I was looking at some pictures of friends’ babies on Facebook I began to think about how every great (and terrible) person in human history began life as an innocent, helpless baby. Jesus Christ, Stephen Hawking, Adolf Hitler, and everyone else has limitless potential when they’re born and we all began at the same level. Will they save lives? Will they cure disease? How do we (as humans) get from such a helpless form into something that controls the planet? It also makes me think about the nurture vs. nature argument and how much is predetermined for our little one already. But that is for another time…
- Researched OB’s/midwives in the area and are pretty sure we know where I will go.
- Scheduled our maternity tour, breast feeding class, and birth class.
- We received the call that our crib is done!
What We’re Looking Forward to This Week:
- Possibly having John’s parents bring us the crib this weekend.
- Hosting my aunt and uncle, who were our eyes for this townhouse, for dinner.
